SNC poll: Walker leads Burke

DE PERE - Republican Gov. Scott Walker leads Democrat Mary Burke 56%-40% among likely Wisconsin voters, a St. Norbert College poll has found.

Results from the latest Wisconsin Survey were released Wednesday. They show 97% of Republicans plan to vote for Walker, while 88% of Democrats plan to vote for Burke. Among independents, Walker leads 53%-34%. The first-term governor is up for re-election in November.

Walker's approval ratings are also up from the last poll. Fifty-nine percent of respondents say they either approve or strongly approve of Walker, up from 50% last fall. Walker's disapproval rating stands at 39%.

Among other leaders measured, President Barack Obama's approval rating is at 48%, with a disapproval rating of 50%. Republican Sen. Ron Johnson has 42% approval rating, with 27% disapproving. Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin has a 44% approval rating, with 35% disapproving.

The poll also asked about Obama's handling of the situation in Ukraine. Forty-five percent of Wisconsinites approve, while 43% disapprove.

The telephone poll of 401 adult Wisconsin residents was taken March 24-April 3. It has a 5% margin of error.
