MADISON - Wisconsin soldiers are still being sent to Afghanistan.
Thursday afternoon, seven Army National Guard soldiers received a send-off at Madison’s airport for a deployment that will eventually take them to Afghanistan for nine months.
While there they will provide airlift missions that will include transporting other soldiers throughout the country.
One of the soldiers from the Madison-based unit is excited for the opportunity.
"I'm feeling pretty excited. It's nice to see all the people that are here today really showing their love and support for us, it feels really good. It's a nice send-off,” said Chief Warrant Officer Paul Phelps, Wisconsin Army National Guard.
The soldiers have been training since October for this mission. They'll train some more at Fort Hood, Texas before heading overseas.
