As one local Salvation Army corps is celebrating reaching its Christmas campaign goal, another is asking for more donations.The Salvation Army - Fox Cities met its $1.2 million goal for the season, the group announced Wednesday. A total of $1,280,800 was collected. More than half of that - $643,084 - was raised during nine match days sponsored by business and community groups in the Appleton area.The red kettle campaign funds about 60% of the Salvation Army's annual budget in the Fox Valley.During the Christmas season, the Salvation Army - Fox Cities distributed food and Christmas gifts to a total of 8,020 people from 2,041 families.Meanwhile, the Salvation Army of Brown County is launching a text messaging campaign to close a $118,000 gap in its red kettle season.The goal for the season was $1.15 million.Capt. Ken Shiels is asking people in Brown County to text "feedtheneed" to 80888 to donate $10 to the charity. If 10% of adults in Brown County donate using this method, the Salvation Army will exceed its goal, leaders say.In Brown County, the Salvation Army distributed toys, books, stocking stuffers and food baskets to around 5,360 children from 2,075 families; food baskets to 330 elderly and disabled people; gifts to 222 elderly and disabled people; and clothing and pajamas to 147 children. In addition, 471 families were helped through the Adopt-A-Family program.
