APPLETON - A program at the Appleton Public Library is making a difference for children in our area.
It's helping kids, grades 1-5, improve their reading skills with the help of a friendly, and furry audience.
Pooches & Pages pairs young readers with therapy dogs.
The reading buddies sit down and read a story together.
Organizers say it helps the children gain confidence in their skills.
Especially if they are self-conscious about reading to their friends or family.
"Dogs don't tend to judge us on our reading skills and our abilities, and they tend to be kind of a calming and relaxing factor for kids as well," said Diane Wizner.
Pooches & Pages is offered at the library on select Saturdays, by registration only.
The next one is scheduled for March 1.
