DE PERE Two weeks into the football season and West De Pere has scored 105 points on its way to two easy wins.In recent years West De Pere had Jay Tollefson and Chandler Diekvoss at quarterback and were major reasons why the Phantoms were one of the best scoring teams in the state. This year, Beau Mommaerts is trying to keep the high-scoring engine going and so far, so good."He's been good at everything he has done," coach Jack Batten said. "He's probably a little bit better runner than I thought last year; great leader, great kid. Just been fun to work with. Hard to find any negatives with that kid."Mommaerts played at times last season when Diekvoss switched to wide receiver, so he had some experience entering the season. His teammates are glad he's throwing the football."As receivers, too, having great quarterbacks, that takes pressure off us because the passes are always there, they're always great passes," receiver Matthew Bald said.West De Pere's offense has rolled but in Friday's GameTime Game of the Week it expects to get a challenge from fellow 2-0 Luxemburg-Casco. Batten mentioned the size of the Spartans is impressive and size is usually an advantage West De Pere has on opponents."They're a big, physical football team, they're well-coached," Batten said. "They're running a new offense this year. Their quarterback is super skilled, really impressed with his physicalness and willing he is to sit in the pocket and take a hit and deliver the football. "They have skill, they've got size. They've got a real good football team, so yeah, we're going to be tested this week."Bald enjoys winning games by 40 points, but he said he wouldn't mind getting tested Friday, as long as the Phantoms win."It'll be fun to have a more competitive game, kind of like see what we're made of; kind of push us a little bit," he said. "I'm kind of excited for this Friday."Notes: West De Pere has beaten Oconto Falls 49-0 and Marinette 56-12. The Phantoms' next two games are at home then finish the season with four of five games on the road. Mommaerts was 13 of 16 for 215 yards last week, while RB Dom Conway rushed 12 times for 127 yards and Connor Konshak had 7 catches for 131 yards.
