City police and firefighters, as well as University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh police, have noticed snowmobile tracks on part of the river. They say vehicle tracks are not an indication of the ice being safe to walk on.
Despite the cold temperatures, the Fox River is still flowing. The flowing water erodes ice from below and can cause some areas of the ice to be thin and unsafe.
Police ask that people not use the river as a crossing point. Instead, use bridges to get to the other side of the river.
