MADISON — The New London softball team on Saturday was attempting to copy what the girls basketball team did in 2011 and 2012 by winning back-to-back state titles.
The Bulldogs were one win away from a repeat as they met Mosinee in Saturday's Division 2 state championship, but a lack of offense halted the Bulldogs' quest.

Mosinee defeated New London, 2-1, at Goodman Diamond, as the Bulldogs had just three hits.
"We had a great warmup," New London co-head coach Laura Turner said. "We wanted to make sure we brought our best version of ourselves coming into our last game. I believe we did that. You gotta give Mosinees credit. Their pitcher did a great job. They put the ball into play and hit some gaps. What can you do? Sometimes it's going to fall your way, sometimes it won't."
At one point Mosinee pitcher Rochelle Koshalek set down 16 straight New London batters. Leah Portah had two hits for New London, which finishes the season at 19-6.
