MADISON New London, the defending Division 2 state softball champions will have a chance for a repeat after defeating New Berlin Eisenhower, 4-3, in a thrilling state semifinal Thursday night at Goodman Diamond.Payton Mix delivered a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win. Mix's hit was the third straight in the inning and came after Eisenhower's Stephanie Lombardo tied the game in the top of the seventh with a two-run homer."It went through my head I had the opportunity to get that big hit to win this game," Mix said. "Overall, I knew it was it was a team effort. We needed that big hit. I was a little bit nervous obviously, but pulled it off."New London boxscore"Our conference, we deal with this in our conference all the time," New London co-coach Laura Turner said. "We know if we keep our composure and do what we're expected to do and play New London ball we'll be successful."The Bulldogs (19-5), which placed third in the Bay Conference, have won 10 straight games, and were to face the winner of Mosinee-McFarland, which played later Thursday night. Turner believes her team can complete the repeat."They're just all-around excellent players," she said. "We work on their focus all the time.
