GREEN BAY - A community shelter is celebrating making a difference for two decades.
The New Community Shelter in Green Bay opened in 1994.
Since then, it has provided people with a place to stay and something to eat. It also helps train its temporary residents to find a job and their own place to stay.
Among the guests Tuesday celebrating 20 years was a former resident grateful for the help.
"When you walk through the doors, all I saw was people trying to help me and I looked at it as to pay them back, I had no money first of all, so I figured the best way to pay them back is to listen to what they tell me,” said Otis, former resident.
On a typical day, 84 people stay at the shelter with the average stay being 38 days.
