WINNEBAGO COUNTY - A man is behind bars for allegedly selling heroin to an Omro man who overdosed and died.

Twenty-three-year-old Matthew Martinez's body was found last month.

Authorities say the arrest should send a message to others.

Dawn Christiansen said Thursday she wasn't aware her son Matthew Martinez was doing drugs.

"Heroin has hit our family very hard. We never expected this and it has been an incredible shock,” said Dawn Christiansen of Omro.

On March 12, Omro police found Martinez dead in his apartment.

"Heroin and other evidence were located in the apartment,” said Chief James Reed, Omro Police Department.

Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz says they arrested a man they believe is responsible for selling heroin to Martinez.

Matz says he believes that suspect is a major dealer in the area.

Matz says this arrest should be a message to others thinking of dealing heroin and other drugs in the county.

"We are going to hold everybody accountable, whether it's the dealer that comes here from another city, a large metropolitan area, all the way down to our local dealers who are distributing it,” said Matz.

FOX 11 is not naming the suspect because he has not yet been charged.

Matz says he expects the man to face charges of first-degree reckless homicide next week.

Sheriff Matz says they are also investigating another suspect who could be charged in the case soon.
