GREEN BAY – Police arrested a 40-year-old man who allegedly tried to break in to an ATM at a bank Friday morning.
Police say, around 6 a.m., employees of Johnson Bank, 318 S. Washington St., arrived at work and found damage in the building foyer and to an ATM in the foyer. Officers collected evidence and watched surveillance video. The video showed a man causing damage and trying to get into the ATM. It appeared he was using only his hands. No money was taken.
While police were investigating that incident, they received a call that a man was damaging property in the lobby of the Quality Inn and Suites across the street. Officers found the man, who told them he was homeless and looking for money to get a car and get out of town.
Police say the man had minor injuries to his hands. They confirmed he was the one seen in the bank’s surveillance video.
Officers say he recently arrived in the area. The man has not yet been formally charged with any crime.
