Just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, officers received a report that the man had been in a bank in downtown Appleton. Tellers asked him to wait for a check to be verified, and he responded by threatening to take the check to another bank and force that bank to cash his check at gunpoint.
Police went to the other bank, which was in the 3300 block of N. Ballard Rd. on the city's north side. They arrived to find the man inside the bank. He came out to his vehicle, where police tried to talk to him. Meanwhile, they had the bank go into lockdown.
Police say the man argued with officers, got out of his vehicle and went toward them, ignoring their commands. An officer went up behind the man and tackled him. Officers arrested the man. No one was hurt in the incident.
The suspect has not been formally charged in this case.
