MILWAUKEE - Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado was suspended five games for his role in the team's brawl against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Easter Sunday.Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez was suspended for three games, while Pirates infielder Travis Snider got a two-game ban and Pittsburgh catcher Russell Martin was suspended for one game. The Brewers official Twitter feed announced the suspensions via Major League Baseball on Tuesday afternoon.Brewers beat writer Adam McCalvy said on Twitter that Maldonado has accepted his five-game ban and will begin serving it Tuesday night, but Gomez, Snider and Martin are appealing their suspensions and are in their respective starting lineups for Tuesday night's games. The brawl broke out after Gomez hit a long fly ball to center field and watched as he slowly made his way toward first base. When Gomez realized the ball was going to go off the wall, he sped up and wound up at third with a triple. Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole voiced his displeasure with Gomez and then turned to talk away. Gomez jumped off third base and walked toward Cole, but was restrained by an umpire. Snider, who was not in the game at the time, left the Pirates dugout and confronted Gomez before knocking him to the ground. The benches cleared and eventually Maldonado hit Snider in the face. Martin also came on to the field during the brawl.Gomez said after the incident that he planned to appeal any suspension handed down by MLB. The other players involved had not expressed whether they planned to appeal. The Brewers say all four players who were suspended were also fined by the league.Brewers bench coach Jerry Narron was ejected from the game on Sunday, but was not disciplined by MLB.
