KIMBERLY - A piece of Kimberly High School's football field is missing, and now a $1,000 reward is being offered to help find who took it."It's field turf, so it does take a little bit of something different," said Robert Mayfield, the school district's superintendent. The school's maintenance crew recently noticed a two foot by six foot part of the logo at mid-field was cut out. The estimate to replace it is about $13,000."It's just kind of senseless," said Investigator Scott VanSchyndel with the Fox Valley Metro Police Department. "This isn't just grass or anything that's painted. This is expensive, high quality turf that they use."So who would want a piece of the field? District officials and Fox Valley Metro Police aren't sure. But they believe a car, captured by a security camera, is likely involved."We don't know if it's a rivalry or just students from the school district or really who cut the chunk out at this time, but we're following up on leads and we have been getting leads, but at this time we haven't identified any persons of interest," said VanSchyndel. For now, the missing part of the field has been filled in, allowing soccer games to be played."We have a great maintenance crew," said Mayfield. "They went immediately and repaired it as we had activities last week that were played on the field."The school hopes the people who caused the damage are caught and will pick up repair costs. Otherwise, district officials say the field is covered under insurance. If you do have information that could lead to an arrest, you can call the Fox Valley Metro Police Department or Quad Communities Crime Stoppers.
