OSHKOSH - The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh used the right procedure to dismiss a former coach, a Winnebago County judge ruled Friday.
The case of former baseball coach Tom Lechnir returned to court. Lechnir claims he was improperly let go by the university. His lawyer says the ruling was expected, but clears the way for a lawsuit.
"We wanted to get through this process and exhaust these remedies, and right now we are anticipating filing a separate lawsuit, which we think would be a better forum to take these claims forward with,” attorney Jason Wied said.
UW-Oshkosh leaders have said in the past that Lechnir is responsible for nearly a quarter million dollars in debt associated with the construction of a new baseball stadium for the university.
They released a statement saying the judge's ruling today affirms their decisions and reviews about Lechnir's job.
“The judge's ruling also affirmed the integrity of the UW Oshkosh Foundation's detailed, thoroughly audited financial records for the Alumni Stadium project,” the statement adds.
The statement goes on to say the ruling also supports the financial records for the stadium project.
