GREEN BAY - The U.S. Coast Guard will start breaking the ice on Green Bay this week.

Starting Thursday, crews will be clearing paths for commercial ships on the Fox River, lower Green Bay, Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal, Little Bay de Noc, and the entrance channel into Marinette and Menominee.

The Coast Guard says ice breaking will increase as the shipping season ramps up.

Ice fishermen are asked to remove their equipment from these areas. Snowmobile and ATV riders should avoid shipping channels and be careful in the area.
