MANITOWOC COUNTY - A nearly five-mile-long chase with vehicles traveling as fast as 110 mph ended with a Green Bay man being taken to jail.

Sheriff's officials say they tried to stop the man for speeding around 6:30 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 43 near Clover Road. Deputies say he was going 78 mph where the speed limit was 65 mph.

Instead of pulling over, the man sped up. Deputies followed him north until he crossed the median and took the southbound exit ramp at Hwy. JJ. He drove around barricades and headed west on Logwood Ln. until he hit a traffic sign and went into a farm field near S. Alverno Rd. and Hwy. JJ in the town of Manitowoc Rapids. The man got out and tried to run away, but deputies caught up with him and arrested him.

Authorities say the 33-year-old man had more than a pound of marijuana in his car, which he planned to deliver to someone else. He was also given a ticket for driving with a suspended license for the third time.
