Guns and Hoses event pits police against firefighters

MARINETTE COUNTY - You might see them out in the community saving lives and protecting the public.

But Saturday, Marinette area police and firefighters laced up their sneakers to battle for a good cause.

They played hoops at the 3rd annual Guns and Hoses Charity Basketball at Marinette High School.

All the proceeds go to sponsor the Special Olympics in Marinette County. Close to $4,000 was raised last year.

People could buy raffle tickets and win door prizes.

Those involved say it's a great way to give back to a special cause.

"We're looking for a way to get involved locally with Special Olympics and this is one of the fundraisers that not only gets community support, but it's also a competitive rivalry between local law enforcement and local fire department," said Marinette County Sheriff's Deputy Brad Wyss.

The police officers won the event and will now have bragging rights over the firefighters until next year.
