Green Bay NWS highlights marine forecasts for National Boating Safety Week
As the weather warms up, so does the boating season in Northeast Wisconsin. In conjunction with National Boating Safety Week, the National Weather Service took Tuesday to highlight its marine weather forecasts. The forecasts provide the weather, temperatures, and more specifically wind forecasts in knots and wave heights. While the NWS has traditionally focused on the nearshore waters of Lake Michigan, Lake Winnebago is also getting its share of attention."That was the big thing that most boaters came to us and asked for outside of the nearshore that we already had, is so many people are on Lake Winnebago, they wanted a forecast for that as well. So last summer we tried that out and it worked really well, so we're starting that again," said Ashley Wolf of the Green Bay National Weather Service. To get these forecasts, click on the waters where you'll be boating on the Green Bay NWS website.Weather radios also receive the forecasts over radio broadcast, so experts also advise having a radio capable of tuning into those frequencies while out on the water.
