MILWAUKEE (AP) - A Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate has backed off on his plan to distribute Ku Klux Klan-style hoods to Republicans at the state GOP convention.State Rep. Brett Hulsey, a Madison Democrat, is running against the better-funded and more broadly supported Democratic candidate Mary Burke. He told reporters he planned to show up at convention in Milwaukee on Friday in a confederate soldier's uniform and hand out Ku Klux Klan-style hoods. He said he wanted to draw attention to a GOP resolution affirming Wisconsin's right to secede and what he called racist Republican policies.Hulsey showed up outside the convention center Friday in a homemade confederate soldier's costume but didn't have any hoods. He said he left them in his car and acknowledged they were a ploy to attract publicity.
