DE PERE - Ten area teachers were recognized Wednesday for their work in their classrooms. Each received a Golden Apple as part of the 21st annual Golden Apple Awards. The Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors the program.
The surprises FOX 11's Tom Milbourn and Michelle Melby were part of began Wednesday morning walking in on an extraordinarily dressed team.It was Wacky Wednesday for third graders at West De Pere's Westwood Elementary. Students cheered on their teachers who just found out from FOX 11's Jay Zollar they're receiving Golden Apples.Golden Apple Awards:

I work with three wonderful people, so I'm very honored," said Samantha Sullivan, Westwood third grade teacher."I just like that we can bring all of our brains together and think of all these ideas," said Stacey Derbique, Westwood third grade teacher."Regan and Stacey and I have been on the team for three years. And then Sammi was hired this year. But it's like she's been here along with us the whole time," said Kayla Weyenberg, Westwood third grade teacher."It's Wacky Wednesday, but we're wacky all the time and crazy all the time," said Regan Budek, Westwood third grade teacher.
Across the street at West De Pere Middle School there are two more recipients, both surprised and appreciative."So I want them to have fun. If they're having fun, I'm going to be having fun," said Sean Gibbons, West De Pere math teacher."I hope that they have a better understanding of themselves and how they fit into the bigger picture of things and that they have confidence that they can do whatever they want to do," said Sheila Kohl, sixth grade science/social studies teacher.Even young students know that good teachers produce results."All of our math like since the beginning of the year really improved. Our test scores have really gone up," said Carissa Konop, West De Pere eighth grade student.And even younger students in Ashwaubenon were excited their teacher received a Golden Apple."It's amazing to be recognized for doing something that you love," said Amy Kupsh, Valley View second grade teacher. "This award could be duplicated over and over and over again and would be shared with so many people because I'm the teacher I am because of the people I work with."Wednesday was a day for sharing not just for a team of teachers, but for the team of teacher and students who are representative of what goes on in classrooms throughout Northeast Wisconsin every day.
