FREEDOM Two missed extra points, one missed field goal and a dropped touchdown pass, that is what prevented Freedom from opening its football season last week with a win at Wrightstown.Freedom fell, 20-19, and even though the Irish has moved onto this week’s game at Winneconne, the GameTime Game of the Week, the taste still remains from the loss."A little frustrated yet from last week from our performance,” coach Clint Kriewaldt said. “I'm not trying to take away anything from Wrightstown. They came after, they took it to us. I just felt our kids didn't show up and didn't compete in that game.""It wasn't conference, not that it doesn't matter, you never want to lose,” linebacker Tyler Behle said. “Put it behind us and get the next one."The next one is against the defending Division 4 state champion but it was supposed to be at home. However, Freedom is installing new grass and the field isn’t ready, so it moves a home game to the road.As expected, Kriewaldt is trying to not make it a big deal."Personally, I like playing on the road, because we get the kids out of their environment, maybe if they have girlfriends, whatnot, get them on the road, get our hands on them a bit and get them thinking about football,” he said. “Less distraction. Going there in the kids' minds might be a big deal. I hope not. We showed the last few years we're a pretty good road team."Home or road, Freedom gets a chance to beat the defending Division 4 state champs on Friday and erase last week’s loss. That's something to look forward to, no matter where the game is."It's always nice to get a crack going after a state champ,” Behle said. “You always like to play your best game anyway."“We’re excited,” Kriewaldt said. “We definitely want to see how the kids respond after a loss on the road against a good, quality team.“No we get another quality team tonight against Winneconne. It’s going to be very interesting to see how our kids react.”Notes: QB Andrew Connelly completed 11 of 21 passes for 243 yards with two TDs and one INT vs. Wrightstown. Freedom’s first home game is supposed to be Sept. 12 against Berlin. Freedom plays at Waupaca next week.
