DOOR COUNTY- Weatherwise, it should be a good weekend to head outdoors. And the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is making it more affordable.Kate Schouten and her mom Sue spent Friday exploring Peninsula State Park."It's a perfect day out. But, lots of bugs as well. So, we're trying not to eat them but the park is gorgeous and it's not too crowded so great," said Schoten, visiting her family's vacation home in Bailey's Harbor. And with free admission Saturday and Sunday, they might check out other state parks in Door County."I think it's great," said Sue Schouten. "Gotta take advantage of it. We like Whitefish (Dunes State Park) also."Staff at Peninsula State Park say it's the first time admission to parks will be free for an entire weekend-not just a Saturday or a Sunday."It's a great chance for people to get out and explore or maybe go to places where they haven't before," said Erin Brown, the Assistant Park Superintendent. It's not just free admission into the parks. It's also a good deal this weekend for fishermen"It's the free fishing weekend in Wisconsin. Everyone can fish for free in Wisconsin. There are also some advantages for ATV and UTV trails," said Brown. But those heading into the water without a boat may face a chilling surprise."We did a little wading this afternoon. I think our feet are thawed out now," said Ken Alme of St. Paul, MN.And whether it's their first time to Door County, or their annual vacation, these outdoor enthusiasts say they'll take full advantage of all that nature in Northeast Wisconsin has to offer.Peninsula State Park says it still has some camp sites available for this weekend. It is one of five state parks in Door County. There are 10 other state parks throughout the rest of northeast Wisconsin.
