Firefighters heat up the ice

DE PERE - They're used to battling blazes, but this weekend some area firefighters were heating up the ice.

It's part of the Wisconsin Firefighters State Tournament going on at Cornerstone Ice Center in De Pere.

The tournament includes firefighters from Madison, the Milwaukee area and the Fox Valley.

Teams consist of up to 25 players.

Some of the players say it's a great way to get together to put the job aside for a bit and play some hockey.

"We're really competitive people. We all play hockey, but then we've also got the bond of brotherhood of the fire service. So to mix the brotherhood of the fire service, that camaraderie, and competition on the ice, it's just a lot of fun," said Green Bay firefighter David Siegel.

The 5th annual tournament continues Sunday.
