Ingredients for cupcake:

1 box of white or yellow cake mix
1/3 cup vegetable or canola oil
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
4 eggs
1 box of instant dry vanilla or white chocolate pudding
1/4 tsp nutmeg
2 tsp cinnamon
3 tsp bread flour
optional ingredient: donut holes to bake inside of the cupcakes.

Ingredients for frosting:

1 cup butter, softened
appx 6-8 cups powdered sugar
6 Tbsp of heavy whipping cream
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon

Ingredients for "donut" glaze:

3 tsp melted butter
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 cup powdered sugar
2 Tbsp hot water


Preheat oven to 325 degrees, line cupcake tins with cupcake wrappers.

Add all ingredients for cupcakes to a bowl on standing mixer and blend for appx 2 minutes, scraping bowl down in between to make sure all ingredients on the bottom are mixed evenly into the batter. Using a cookie or an ice cream scoop, fill cupcake liners about 1/2 full and bake appx 22 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.

* Optional: To bake donut holes inside of the donut cupcakes, scoop a spoonful of batter onto the bottom of cupcake liner. Place donut hole on top of the batter. Cover donut hole with a second layer of batter and donut hole will bake inside of the cupcake as a bonus surprise!

For the frosting:

Whip butter and heavy whipping cream in stand mixer with flat beater attachment until creamy. Scrape down bowl, add vanilla extract and whip again to make sure all ingredients are evenly mixed. Gradually add powdered sugar until frosting is desired thickness. For thicker frosting to pipe pretty swirls with, use more powdered sugar. For a creamier frosting, use less powdered sugar. After frosting has reached desired consistency, fold in cinnamon.

For "donut" glaze:

Melt butter in microwave proof bowl in the microwave. Once butter is melted, pour butter into a stand mixer bowl and beat other ingredients in until glaze is formed. Use glaze right away, or microwave to thin it out. For decorating, use a spoon to pour/drizzle the glaze right on top of your cupcake frosting swirl and let it drip down the frosting. as soon as you pour the glaze on top of the cupcake, add any sprinkles or sparkles or embellishments to the top of the glaze since it hardens fast.
