Update, 12:35 pm Thursday:

The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office in conjunction with the FAA, NTSB, and the Winnebago County Coroner, Barry Busby are continuing to investigate the incident.  The crash resulted in the fatality of the lone occupant, who has been identified as James M. Sakowski, age 57, of Oshkosh.



More information could be released Thursday about a pilot killed in an ultralight crash in Winnebago County.

The sheriff's department says the ultralight went down in a hayfield in the Town of Poygan around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The pilot was killed. He was the only person on board. His name is not being released yet.

Authorities say they aren't sure where the aircraft was coming from or where it was headed.

A tower operator at the Wittman Regional Airport tells FOX 11 there is an airstrip near the crash site that is often used by ultralight pilots

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will try to figure out why the ultralight went down.
