The organization which markets the greater Milwaukee area to tourists and others, VISIT Milwaukee, says 18,000 people will attend the NCAA men's basketball tournament each day and 6,000 will be staying in hotels. VISIT Milwaukee estimated the overall economic impact with lodging, transportation, food and beverage, retail and recreation at an estimated $4.6 million.
"Milwaukee is filled with sports fanatics, and we are delighted the NCAA has chosen the BMO Harris Bradley Center as a site for this year's tournament. This is a great opportunity to showcase Milwaukee on the national sports stage," said Brent Foerster, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for VISIT Milwaukee.
The West regional and Midwest regional games at the BMO Harris Bradley Center Thursday and Saturday are expected to generate $325,000 in local tax revenue and support 1,500 jobs.
