Easy Flan Recipe


2/3 cup white sugar
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup milk
5 eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
1 Tbsp almond liquor (optional)


Preheat the oven to 350.

To start, place sugar in a small saucepan and heat it over medium heat, shaking and swirling the pan to dissolve the sugar and lightly brown it. Once it is dissolved and lightly brown, hold the pan up a few inches away from the flame (about 4 inches or so) and continue to brown the sugar to a dark brown by swirling it around, try to avoid stirring it as you don't want it to crystallize!

Pour the caramelized sugar into a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish and swirl around to coat the (bottom!) of the dish evenly.

Set aside, combine the sweetened condensed milk, cream, milk, eggs and vanilla in a stand mixer or blender and blend for 1 minute. Pour the mixture over the sugar. Carefully place the dish in a larger pan and add 1 inch of HOT water to the outer pan. If you need hot water quickly, we suggest running a pot of just water through the coffee pot.

Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until set.

Tips- be sure the oven is HOT before you put your flan in! If you prefer you can use individual serving size ramekins instead of 1 large casserole dish.
