Driver jailed after fatal crash

UPDATE: The driver of the pickup truck, Codi Olson, appeared in court Monday afternoon, where a $5,000 cash bond was set. Olson has not been formally charged with any crime. He is due back in court next Monday.


UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Derek A. Waterman. He died of head and neck injuries and with other areas of blunt-force trauma. Authorities say he was not wearing a seat belt.


TOWN OF MANITOWOC RAPIDS - A Manitowoc driver is behind bars as a result of a fatal crash Sunday night.

Manitowoc Co. sheriff's officials say they were called to the crash on Hwy. 10, west of Village Dr. in Branch, just before 7 p.m. Investigators say a pickup truck headed east on Hwy. 10 crossed the center line and hit a car coming in the other direction. The driver of the westbound car, a 26-year-old from Manitowoc, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 20-year-old from Manitowoc, was jailed on suspicion of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle and knowingly operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver's license while causing death.

The names of the two drivers have not been released. The crash is still under investigation.
