TOWN OF GIBRALTAR - A $25,000 donation will fund a fishing pier accessible to people with disabilities at Peninsula State Park.Department of Natural Resources officials say the donation comes from the Alan Rheinschmidt Memorial Fund. The avid outdoorsman worked at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay for 30 years. He also was a supporter of disabled veterans and the Special Olympics.Rheinschmidt, of Mosinee, died last December."This generous donation bequeathed by Mr. Rheinshmidt will assure that his passion for Wisconsin's outdoors and Wisconsin's state parks will be shared with generations to come," DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp said in a news release. The pier will be built at the end of a new breakwall extension at Nicolet Bay, DNR officials say. The donation may also allow for a disabled-accessible kayak to be available for public use at the park.
