      De Pere archers aiming high

DE PERE - The De Pere Middle School archery team captured the National Archery in Schools Program state title in a tournament held this past weekend in Wausau, winning by a single point.Their score topped a field of 19 teams and the win qualifies De Pere for the national tournament to be held in Louisville, Kentucky on May 9-10."It's really cool to think you're the best middle school in the state in archery," said archer Jerod Bush. "It feels good to know all your work paid off."De Pere were runners up in the tournament in 2013. The competition set a Guinness record for most archers competing at one time with more than 11,000 competitors."Last year when I went I was nervous," said archer Riley Cherney. "This year I know to just have fun and shoot good."The kids say going to nationals makes a fun sport even better."When you shoot high scores, when you shoot together as a team, it helps your team as well as yourself," said archer Adam Touchinski."I have awesome coaches and they kind of took me under their wing and helped me every step of the way," said archer Mason Faulkner.
