Charles Gibson to speak at Lawrence graduation

APPLETON - Longtime television journalist Charles Gibson will speak at Lawrence University's graduation ceremony in June, the school has announced.

Gibson worked in news for more than 40 years, including 33 at ABC. He spent 18 years on "Good Morning America" and the final three and a half years of his career anchoring "World News Tonight" until his retirement in 2009.

The native of Evanston, Ill., grew up in Washington, D.C. He earned a bachelor's degree from Princeton University in 1965.

Lawrence plans to recognize Gibson with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at its June 15 graduation.
