HILBERT - The driver of a car that was hit by a train Tuesday morning was arrested and given two traffic tickets.

The crash happened around 6:35 a.m. on Hwy. 57. Sheriff's deputies say the 22-year-old Hilbert man was headed south on 57 when he drove through the railroad gate. The train hit the back of the man's car and spun it around. Investigators say skid marks indicated the man tried to stop. They don't believe the man was drinking.

Neither the driver nor anyone on the train was hurt.

The driver of the car was arrested on a warrant for a previous event. He was also given a $207.90 ticket for failing to yield the right-of-way and a $200.50 ticket for driving while his license was suspended.

Hwy. 57 was closed for about an hour and 45 minutes after the crash.
