A soldier from Kenosha dies after serving in Afghanistan

FORT HOOD, TX - A soldier from Kenosha has died after serving in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense announced Friday that 20-year-old Donnell A. Hamilton Jr. died July 24th at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio Texas from an illness he got in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan.

Hamilton entered active duty service in October 2012 as an M1 armor crewman.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Hamilton's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
