LUXEMBURG The last time Luxemburg-Casco started a season 2-0 was 2011.OK, not the most eye-opening statistic, but after a 1-3 start last season the Spartans are feeling pretty good about the start to the season. However, L-C knows entering Friday's GameTime Game of the Week at West De Pere the 2-0 record isn't going to scare the Phantoms.Still, second-year coach Dillon Maney likes what his team has showed this season."We've had our backs against the wall a couple times early on, adversity and I think that has really defined us as a team," Maney said. "I think our kids are the type of kids who never give up. They scratch, they claw, they fight and what that's done it help us get those two victories early on."If the Spartans are to move to 3-0 they have to do something they have never done, beat West De Pere. This is the final meeting between the teams in conference play as L-C is leaving the Bay Conference after the season in conference realignment."They're a good team," lineman Will Simonar said. "It's going to be a really tough game but you know the way we've been playing, the momentum. If we go in there and play hard every game, I think, we'll see what happens at the end. I think it'll be a close game."If it is, it'll be the first time this season West De Pere has been challenged. It has won games by scores of 49-0 and 56-12. The Spartans should field a better challenge, but they know playing the Phantoms, a regular Division 3 state-title contender, means few expect them to win. That's OK, though."We've been the underdog all year pretty much," Maney said. "We're OK with that role. That role suits our kids pretty well and they kind of fly under the radar and we're going to come out and do our best; we're going to play hopefully mistake-free football, not turn the ball over, and at the end we just want a shot to possibly win the football game."Notes: L-C has defeated Seymour 28-21 and Denmark 28-14. Dylan McGuire leads the Spartans with 10 catches for 294 yards and three TDs. Simonar has 28 tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack this season.
