GREEN BAY – A couple involved in a fatal bus crash Tuesday on Highway 29 near Pulaski were to be married next month.
Justin Cyzan and Shannon Hall wrapped up a premarriage counseling session in Green Bay, and were heading to their home near Wausau when the crash happened. Hall was killed in the crash.
Calvary Lutheran Church Pastor Earl Vorpagel was to perform the ceremony. He says Tuesday’s bus crash on Highway 29 was tragic.
“There’s no answers for something, why something like this happened,” said Pastor Vorpagel.
Pastor Vorpagel says the counseling session was heart-warming.
“We talked about telling each other why they love each other. And that was something I felt happy about for them, because they were able to face each other and say this is why I love you,” said Vorpagel.
Vorpagel says Cyzan’s father passed the crash scene on the way to the hospital, and asked police for information. Vorpagel says Cyzan may have tried to avoid the bus.
“Rather than hitting it square, he hit it at an angle. I think he was conscious of trying to prevent the kids from getting hurt. That was impressive, but it came at the cost of his bride,” said Vorpagel.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation. They say at this point there is no indication how the crash happened.
Meanwhile, Pastor Vorpagel says there are lessons to be learned.
“Appreciate and love the people that you’re with while you’re with them. And don’t be afraid to tell them why they matter to you,” said Vorpagel.
Funeral arrangements for Shannon Hall are pending. The service is scheduled to be held in Marathon City.
