GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Packers have signed C Garth Gerhart to the active roster from the practice squad, signed G Josh Allen to the practice squad and placed C/G JC Tretter on injured reserve – designated for return. The transactions were announced Wednesday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.
Gerhart, a 6-foot-1, 310-pound first-year player out of Arizona State, was on Green Bay’s practice squad at the end of the 2012 season and the final 12 weeks and playoff game in 2013. Between practice-squad stints with Green Bay, he was also on the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad in September 2013. Gerhart originally entered the league as a non-drafted free agent with the Cleveland Browns on May 3, 2012, and was on the Browns’ practice squad for the 2012 regular season.
Allen, a 6-foot-3, 312-pound rookie out of Louisiana-Monroe, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a non-drafted free agent on May 12, 2014. He was released by the Buccaneers on August 31, 2014. Allen started 42 of 47 games in college and earned first-team All-Sun Belt and All-Louisiana honors as a senior.
