NEENAH – Neenah police say two men have been arrested in connection with two separate beatings last week.
Police say the first assault happened at about 8:15 p.m. Aug. 25 in the 900 block of Apple Blossom Drive. The second occurred nearly six hours later several blocks away inside a bar in the 1100 block of Gillingham Road.
The bar’s owner didn’t want to go on camera, but told FOX 11 a bar patron was attacked when he tried to help the bartender remove customers who were refusing to leave at around bar-close.
“Any place where people are asking patrons to leave a bar and the patrons become unruly and fight, that can happen at any bar,” said Neenah Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson.
Wilkinson says bar surveillance video footage and the victim from the first incident helped police at tracking down the two men, arresting them Monday.
He says the two incidents are connected only by the alleged suspects involvement – not by a particular motive or the two victims.
“We knew – from the front-end – tha tthis wasn’t something that the neighbors, or people, needed to be concerned about, because we had a good lead on who the people were,” Wilkinson said. “This wasn’t stranger-on-stranger crime, in the classic sense.”
It’s unclear when the suspects will make an initial appearance in Winnebago County court. Wilkinson says the two men are not connected to a third assault early Monday morning.
