SHEBOYGAN – A helicopter took to the skies in Sheboygan to honor a soldier killed in action 42 years ago.
Army First Lieutenant Thomas Shaw was killed when his chopper crashed during a mission in Vietnam.
Shaw and his family are from the Fond du Lac area.
Sunday three other pilots who served with him rode on a helicopter just like his.
Members of Shaw’s family also had the chance to ride along.
One of the men who served with Shaw said Shaw paid the ultimate price.
“The Shaw family has sacrificed much more that any of us did in Vietnam, and we really wanted them to know that we, as a Gold Star family, appreciated their sacrifice and the burdens they’ve carried over these years,” said Former Army Warrant Officer Jim Crigler.
All of the men were part of the Army’s 129th Assault Helicopter Company.
