A former UW-Oshkosh baseball coach filed a federal lawsuit against the university Wednesday, seeking damages related to his dismissal.
Thomas Lechnir has been at odds with UWO since his contract was not renewed. He appealed his dimissal through internal UW System channels, but was unsuccessful.
In the 20-page complaint, Lechnir complains he was deprived of due process, that the dismissal was retaliatory, and that the defendants’ conspired to deprive him of his civil rights. Lechnir asks for unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.
The defendants named are the school, former Chancellor Richard Wells, athletic director Darryl Sims, and vice chancellor Petra Roter.
The case has been assigned to Green Bay-based federal Judge William Griesbach. No hearings have been set.
UW-Oshkosh has declined to comment but a Winnebago County judge upheld the school’s decision.
