LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Appleton native Ryan Helminen, a PGA teaching professional in Neenah, nearly got to play the weekend at the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club. Helminen finished his first two rounds at 2-over-par; the cut to make the weekend was 1-over-par. Helminen shot +2 during his first round and even on his second round.
Helminen played with professionals Kevin Streelman and Edoardo Molinari. The 39-year-old teaches at Ridgeway Country Club in Neenah. He made the major’s field by finishing in the top 20 at the National Club PGA Professional Tournament. The former Badger played in 3 PGA Tour events before this one, but never a major.
