Packers shareholders take in stadium renovations

GREEN BAY – Packers shareholders got more than the latest updates from the team.

Fans also checked out recent renovations to Lambeau Field.

Breakfast sizzled in the early morning air.

Keith Laarveld manned one of the first tailgate parties at the stadium this year.

“Brats, and I think some cheese curds. Johnsonville, of course,” said Keith Laarveld, Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Just down the parking lot, Tom Rozum and his crew got ready for the annual meeting.

“It’s always the official kickoff to the season. And we’re happy enough to be here as shareholders to get in there, and enjoy the day,” said Tom Rozum, Batavia, Illinois.

Fans climbed the steps to the remodeled Oneida Nation Gate.

Sarah Schuck was in line for the first time.

“Awesome, it’s just awesome. I have stage-four cancer, and this is on my bucket list to come here. My brother and sister-in-law made it possible,” said Sarah Schuck, Hager City.

When the gates opened, shareholders flooded the concourse, and the atrium.  An escalator transported fans one level down to the new Packers Pro Shop.

“It’s bigger than the one that they had before. They really do have the merchandise displayed really well. You can see everything,” said Mary Florence, Marengo, Illinois.

“I just don’t have enough money. I don’t know where to start. Everything you could want is here. I like this truck full of cheeseheads,” said Michael Petrie, Fremont, California.

And just outside, Dee Dee Thompson says the new Harlan Plaza takes makes a pretty good picture.

“The entrance is just magnificent. Moving the statues down, I think is a wonderful idea,” said Dee Dee Thompson, Lake Tomahawk.

But not everyone is a fan of the new look.

“I don’t like it as well as the old one. Why is that? I don’t know. It just doesn’t seem like it has the class, I don’t know,” said Gerry Jensen, Green Bay.

Renovations aside, the question is how are the Packers going to do this season?

“Probably 12-4. Super Bowl or no? Probably not,” said Jensen.

“I think Green Bay is going to win the Super Bowl. What do you think I am going to say,” said Petrie.

That road to the Super Bowl begins this Saturday, when Packers Training Camp gets underway.
