MADISON (AP) – The Wisconsin Badgers first football game of the season will take place before a nationally-televised audience against Southeastern Conference powerhouse Louisiana State.

The Bucky faithful will travel to Houston for the Advocare Texas Kickoff Aug. 30. But, the university’s band will stay home.

UW director of bands, Mike Leckrone, says it’s a big disappointment that the band won’t be able to attend such a big game – but it all comes down to money.

Leckrone tells WISC-TV the game’s organizers contacted him in April asking if the band would like to perform at halftime. But, Leckrone says the band recently purchased new uniforms and doesn’t have the $200,000 to $300,000 necessary to make the trip to Houston.
