Two lighthouse guests taken to hospital after gas leak

Fire crews respond to Rawley Point Lighthouse

TWO RIVERS – A gas leak at the Rawley Point Lighthouse north of Two Rivers sends two people to the hospital.

Those renting out the lighthouse reported smelling the odor of gas around 11:30 Saturday morning. Fire crews responded and found two people sickened by the odor. Those two were taken to the hospital.

Further inspection found a 1,000-gallon liquid natural gas tank leaked nearly its entire contents into the lighthouse creating a dangerous situation.

The lighthouse is routinely rented out to members of the Coast Guard.

There is no indication what caused the leak.
