MENASHA – Mayor Donald Merkes is recommending that the postponed Independence Day fireworks be set off Sept. 6 as part of the SeafoodFest event.
The Common Council will discuss the issue Monday.
The fireworks were not held on either July 4 or 5 due to strong winds, promoting a discussion of rescheduling.
In a letter to aldermen, Merkes said both SeafoodFest and the JazzFest organizers expressed an interest in having the fireworks in conjunction with their event. Also, the city could cancel the show, but have to pay a 20% cancellation fee ($3,800).
Merkes says he believes SeafoodFest “provides the most opportunities for attendees with the least additional costs to the City.”
The meeting is at 6pm at City hall, 140 Main St.
