PORTAGE, Wis. (AP) – A rural Poynette woman has been sentenced to probation for a crash that killed her mother last December.
Forty-seven-year-old Barbara Dorshorst pleaded no contest to a charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.
Prosecutors say Dorshorst’s mother, 78-year-old Caroline Hebel, was a passenger in the SUV and died as a result of the crash.
At Monday’s hearing, Judge Alan White ordered Dorshorst to serve 25 years of probation, including one year in jail. She also must attend counseling for 10 years.
The Portage Daily Register reports Dorshorst tearfully apologized at the hearing.
According to the complaint, the Chevrolet Blazer driven by Dorshorst left the road and crashed into a tree in the town of Dekorra on Dec. 7. Deputies say Dorshorst failed field sobriety tests.
