2 lbs. lean ground beef or ground lamb
1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
3 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and pepper
¾ cup cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoon chopped fresh dill or mint
1 Tbsp. chopped fresh mint leaves
½ cup finely chopped cucumber
1 cup seeded and diced tomatoes
½ cup finely diced red onion
6 to 8 pita pockets
In large bowl, combine ground beef or lamb with oregano, feta, garlic , and salt and pepper. Shape into 6 to 8 patties depending on the size you want.
In small bowl, combine yogurt, sour cream, dill or mint, lemon juice, mint, cucumbers and salt and pepper to taste and mix. Refrigerate while cooking burgers.
Cook patties until thoroughly cooked and no longer pink in center, turning once. Serve in pita breads with tomato, onions and yogurt sauce. Makes 6 to 8 sandwiches.
