TOWN OF GRATIOT, Wis. (AP) – Officials in Lafayette County are suing the estate of a deceased clerk, saying he embezzled $134,000 over a five-year period.
A WISC-TV report says Robert Hermanson committed suicide in April after being confronted with evidence of questionable expenses.
Hermanson used to be a fire-district clerk. The Village of Gratiot, the Township of Gratiot, and the Gratiot Fire District have filed a claim against his estate.
Gratiot Village Attorney Duane Jorgensen says Hermanson wrote checks to himself and his business, without receipts to support the checks.
Hermanson died in April. Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley says the death has been ruled a suicide.
Online court records list Brett Hermanson as Robert’s personal representative. A message left for him Saturday was not immediately returned.
