Tornadoes have shifted from the Plains to the Northeast this week

Tornado activity this week has shifted to the Northeast. A deadly twister hit in Smithfield, New York, Tuesday, killing 4 people. The Binghamton, New York, National Weather Service office confirmed it was an EF2 tornado with winds of 100 to 125 mph. Other twisters touched down on that same day in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

So how common are tornadoes in these locations?

The average tornado count over 30 years for New York is nine. For Ohio it’s 17. Compared that to Wisconsin, with an average of 23.
