WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) – A judge has halted his previous order that 12-year-old Morgan Geyser, accused in the near-fatal stabbing of a classmate undergo an insanity exam.
Geyser and her 12-year-old co-defendant, Anissa Weier, are charged with trying to kill their victim. Prosecutors say the suspects were trying to impress the fictional horror character Slender Man.
Defense attorney Anthony Cotton represents Geyser. Separate doctors for the state and defense believe she isn’t mentally competent to assist in her own defense.
Last week prosecutors asked that Cotton’s client be evaluated to determine whether she had a mental defect at the time of the crime. Judge Michael Bohren granted the exam, despite Cotton’s objection that Geyser couldn’t be questioned if she’s incompetent.
Bohren reversed himself Tuesday, halting his order for mental examination.
